Quit falling for the marketing scams.

I know I just posted a rant a couple days ago, but that one gave me inspiration to write this one, so here we are.

In the past decade, the fitness industry has exploded. People are now buying more supplements, detoxes, and gimmicky products than ever before because everybody wants to have the perfect chiseled physique.

Why has the fitness industry been growing so rapidly? Well, it’s due in large part to the form of marketing being used to solicit the ignorant public into buying products.

Ignorant: lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular.

I am not calling the public stupid. I am saying they are unaware of the tricks being used on them.

Specifically, I am talking about the use of steroid filled models and celebrities to sell products that they themselves have never even used.

For example, just about everybody is familiar with the Total Gym commercials using Chuck Norris as a spokesmodel. These ads all do whatever they can to lead you to believe if you buy this product, you will have a body similar to his, and maybe even become famous like him.

The scary part about this is that people don’t even realize they are being suckered into having these thoughts of grandeur. It is all subconscious.

You aren’t outright saying to yourself “Man, if I get this Total Gym, I am going to be able to get a body just like Chuck Norris’ and be famous and have a girlfriend like that girl in the commercial.” But subconsciously, that is exactly what you are telling yourself.

THAT is why these advertisements work and that is why all of these terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE (did I mention terrible?) products are able to flood the market and sustain a multi-billion dollar industry.

If a product out there has a claim that sounds too good to be true, there’s no probably about it. If you want legitimate results you are going to have to put in legitimate effort. You will not have the body of your dreams in a week, a month, or even a year.

But what I can guarantee is that once you realize hard work is the only answer and you actually put in the effort to make your dreams happen, you will be much happier than if you got there with a magic pill.
